Forecast centers

The Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) is our provider of seasonal forecasts: it offers data from several state-of-the-art prediction systems developed by meteorological centers throughout the world. The centers currently providing forecasts to C3S are:

The output of each prediction center is a probabilistic
forecast: a set of possible outcomes (realizations), rather
than a single deterministic answer. The members of this
ensemble of predictions accounts for the chaotic nature of
the atmospheric system and allows to estimate the
prediction uncertainty, as well as the predictability for the
region and period.

At the same turn, combining predictions from various
centers allows us to leverage the different strengths of each,
while canceling out the systematic model errors they may
present.

Observational reference

The SERIES product by Vortex provides an accurate
alternative to on-site measurements. Its high-resolution
time-series captures wind and weather dynamics at
your site in detail and complexity.
Leveraging Vortex SERIES as observational data
guarantees the forecasts are compared to the best
observational reference possible, and thus it allows to:

Calculate reliable observed historical distributions.

Accurately assess the past performance of the
forecasts.

Identify which are the most suitable forecast
provider(s) for your site.
